Senedd sit-in slates inaction on Palestine

PARENTS and children have staged a sit-in at the Senedd calling on the Welsh government to halt arms for Israel.

Led by parents, children and grandparents the peace activists carried out the action on Thursday to cheers from members of the public in the Cardiff Bay building.

One of the mothers, Rama Saidani, said: “Witnessing what multiple humanitarians, experts and legal professionals have found to be a plausible genocide, we as families cannot be insensitive to the suffering of other families a few hours’ plane journey away.

“If Russian arms companies operated on Welsh soil, would we simply ignore them?

“We are aiming to make a statement and to get representatives and those in power to get back to their humanities, so that Wales can be a driving force in trying to end this catastrophe.”

The families wore T-shirts with slogans saying: “This mam says … Arms Embargo Now” and “Stop killing kids.”

The activists said no urgency had been shown by Senedd members to stop the ongoing massacre of Palestinians despite the vote for an immediate ceasefire last year.

Cardiff grandmother Frankie Finn said: “While we are taking our children to the park, parents in Palestine are searching for their children's butchered body parts in the rubble. A finger here, a foot there.

“Wales is a Celtic nation, a place of compassion and kindness. We urge the Welsh government to use every means at its disposal to stop the UK arms trade with Israel and to urgently call for a ceasefire now.”
