Sir Keir's popularity plummets, polling shows

SIR KEIR STARMER’S personal ratings have plunged to new lows, casting a shadow over Labour’s polling lead.

The latest survey from Ipsos gave the Labour leader a net satisfaction rating of minus 22, with 51 per cent dissatisfied with his performance and just 29 per cent satisfied.

Over the course of this year, Sir Keir’s polling figures have plunged on a number of characteristics.  He is down 5 per cent on honesty after a series of U-turns on key policy issues.

Seven per cent more believe the Labour leader is more style than substance and there is a huge increase of 14 per cent in the number of voters believing him out of touch.

Nevertheless, Sir Keir compares favourably with Rishi Sunak on most measures. The Prime Minister had a net satisfaction rating of minus 44 per cent.

And Labour retains a 20 point lead over the Tories in general election voting intentions — 44 to 24 per cent, with the Liberal Democrats on 12 per cent and the Greens on 8 per cent.

While there are presently no moves against Sir Keir within the Labour Party, the figures will surely lead to speculation as to how much better the party could be polling under a more popular leader.

A Momentum spokesman said:  “The public are sick and tired of the Tories. What Keir Starmer needs to do is offer a real alternative.

“People want authentic politicians who stand for something, not broken promises and status quo politics. Keir Starmer should stand by the pledges he was elected on.”
