South Korea calls for stronger air defences after North deploys drones
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol speaks during a cabinet council meeting at the presidential office in Seoul, South Korea, Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022.

SOUTH KOREAN will deploy stronger air defences and high-tech stealth drones after pilotless aircraft from North Korea crossed the border for the first time in five years, President Yoon Suk Yeol has said.

He was speaking on Tuesday, when Seoul’s military apologised for failing to shoot down the drones.

Warplanes and attack helicopters were scrambled on Monday, but they did not bring down any of the North Korean drones, which returned home or disappeared from South Korean radar.
