SNP and Green MSPs yet to back well-being bill

SNP and Green MSPs are “nowhere to be seen” on proposals for a new well-being Bill, says Scottish Labour said today.

Labour MSP Sarah Boyack said not a single SNP or Green MSP had backed her plans to place a duty of sustainable development and well-being on public bodies, despite it featuring in their last three programmes for government.

The Bill is backed by more than 100 organisations — including Friends of the Earth Scotland, Poverty Alliance, and the STUC — which wrote to First Minister Humza Yousaf in July to demand action.

Ms Boyack welcomed cross-party support for her Bill, but said: “It is incredibly disappointing that the Greens and SNP are nowhere to be seen.

“Both the SNP and Greens committed to bringing forward a Bill of this nature but despite years of rhetoric they haven’t done so, it is therefore deeply disappointing that they are yet to support my member’s Bill.

“The SNP and Green MSPs still have time to do the right thing and I call on them to act now and support this Bill.”

The Scottish government was contacted for comment.
