WOMEN’S TENNIS: Marta Kostyuk celebrated reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals today on her Centre Court debut. The Ukrainian waltzed into the last four for the first time at SW19 with a straight-sets win over former runner-up Jasmine Paolini. Kostyuk had never previously made it past the third round in south-west London, and was beaten in round one last year, but she overcame Paolini 6-3 6-2 in just an hour and nine minutes.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Alvaro Arbeloa has been appointed as Fulham’s new head coach on a three-year contract today. The 43-year-old former Spain full-back, who finished last season in charge of his long-time club Real Madrid, succeeds Marco Silva after the Portuguese coach departed for Benfica at the end of his contract. He said: “I am really looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere at Craven Cottage with Fulham fans.”
MEN’S TENNIS: Novak Djokovic had a furious row with tournament referee Denise Parnell as he battled through the longest quarter-final in Wimbledon history on Tuesday night. The 39-year-old had to go the distance in a deciding-set tie-break to beat Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime and book a semi-final showdown with defending champion Jannik Sinner. His 7-6 (10) 3-6 6-3 6-7 (4) 7-6 (10-4) victory took an exhausting five hours and 15 minutes, finishing just before Wimbledon’s 11pm curfew.
MEN’S GOLF: Rory McIlroy is looking to enjoy some home comforts as he begins his Scottish Open challenge tomorrow. McIlroy will play alongside home favourite Robert MacIntyre and defending champion Gotterup at the Renaissance Club in a headline three-ball this morning. World number one Scottie Scheffler will head out with English duo Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick this afternoon.
