Star’s first mention at FMQs is co-operative

THE Morning Star got its first mention at First Minister’s Questions in the Senedd yesterday as Mark Drakeford addressed an article by Luke Fletcher on co-operative businesses in Wales in Saturday’s edition.

In his feature article, Mr Fletcher said Welsh co-operatives had the lowest annual turnover in Britain and wanted more resources given to the sector.

The First Minister said he agreed with the Plaid member’s views, adding that “more can and should be done to promote the benefits to other businesses.”

Plaid leader Rhun ap Iorwerth tried to expose the issue of high-speed rail funding differences in the UK Labour Party and asked if the Welsh government would take legal action against an incoming Labour government, as it was considering against the Tories.

Mr Drakeford dismissed Mr ap Iorwerth’s question and said it was sensible that if there was a Labour UK government they should have a chance to assess the damage done to the economy by the Tories before making detailed spending decisions.
