SIR KEIR STARMER must back calls for care workers to be paid at least £15 an hour, GMB leader Gary Smith prepared to tell delegates today.

The union’s general secretary is set to urge the Labour leader to support the sector’s workers, who only get “pennies above the minimum wage,” during his keynote speech to the general union’s annual congress in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

Sir Keir appeared to support demands for a £15-an-hour minimum wage before he was elected Labour leader in 2020 but has since argued for an hourly rate of “at least” £10.
