UNDERPAID and overworked teaching staff are reaching breaking point, education unions have warned, as new research shows overwhelmed workers are ready to abandon the sector. 

Charity Education Support’s annual Teacher Wellbeing Index reveals that most educators — 55 per cent — are “actively looking to leave the profession” as levels of depression and anxiety soar above those reported by the general population.

The shocking findings come ahead of strike action at 77 sixth-form colleges across England tomorrow.
