Tensions continue to rise between Pakistan and Afghanistan

TENSIONS between Pakistan and Afghanistan continued to rise today as the latter condemned “reckless” air strikes on Taliban targets.

Monday’s Pakistani attack targeted groups in Afghanistan allied to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which Islamabad accuses of carrying out a series of terrorist acts.

Eight people were reportedly killed in the air strikes.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry confirmed that the “intelligence-based anti-terrorist operations” had been launched against safe havens of the TTP in Afghanistan.

“The prime target of today’s operation was the terrorists belonging to Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group, which along with the TTP is responsible for multiple terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, resulting in deaths of hundreds of civilians and law enforcement officials,” the ministry said.

But the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan warned Pakistan today  that its “reckless” action could have a “bad consequence.”

Posting on social media site X, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said: “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, which has a long experience of freedom struggle against the superpowers of the world, does not allow anyone to invade its territory.

“Pakistan shouldn’t blame Afghanistan for the lack of control, incompetence and problems in its own territory.

“Such incidents can have a very bad consequence, which will not be in Pakistan’s control.”
