TRADE UNIONISTS took to the Maes in Pontypridd today to discuss the dangers to workers of artificial intelligence (AI).
TUC Wales (WTUC) research has revealed how staff are being managed and watched by AI as they work, with some developments threatening to displace workers altogether.
WTUC’s Ceri Williams said: “Unions are responding in an effective way to the growth of AI.
“They are taking the lead in protecting workers against the threats of AI – and trying to realise its opportunities for employees.”
The writers’ union’s Manon Eames said: “AI isn’t something that is going to happen in the future, it is here now.
“AI is using writers’ work without attribution, which also means they are not being paid for their work despite the money it is generating for tech companies.”
The TUC has published an Artificial Intelligence (Regulation and Employment Rights) Bill, which would strengthen workers’ rights when AI systems are introduced, but that will require government legislation.
