TRADE unions should push to be included in the national curriculum to tackle anti-worker propaganda, Usdaw delegates moved at their annual conference today.
They voted for a motion calling on the union to lobby for the introduction of a subject or module devoted to the labour movement from Year 9 upwards.
Moving the proposal, Bucks & Hemel Food Retail delegate Sorin Mihaila said: “It’s time to act now. We’ve got a Labour government which I know is committed to work with us.”
Deputy general secretary Dave McCrossen said that a dedicated module would “bridge the gap” in awareness among young people of the role that unions play in society and the workplace, adding that it “could also help dispel common misconceptions about unions.
“By providing an evidence-based understanding of their role, students will be better equipped to make informed decisions about union membership and their rights as workers,” he said.
