Unions warn Welsh government to drop plans to change the school year

TRADE unions warned the Welsh government today to drop controversial plans to change the school year.

A government consultation on changing the year, potentially redistributing holidays through the year to reduce the length of the long summer holiday, is due to report this spring.

But Wales TUC delegates demanded that ministers withdraw the proposal, with National Education Union delegate Angela Sandles saying there is “absolutely no clear evidence of any positive impact” from such a change.
