Unite the Right 2 rally to be held yards from the White House

FORMER Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke is set to speak at white supremacist rally yards from the White House tomorrow after authorities granted permission for the “Unite the Right 2” event.

The National Park Service (NPS) agreed to the permit for the demonstration, which will take place on the first anniversary of last year’s event in Charlottesville at which anti-fascist counter-protester Heather Heyer was killed.

The 400 expected to attend have been asked to bring bodycams and the racist US Confederate flag to the event which will take place in Lafayette Park, next to the White House.

They have been banned from holding a torchlight parade or march and authorities said they did not expect violence at the event which will be heavily policed.

Those demonstrating say they are standing up for “white civil rights” and will hear from a number of far-right speakers, including Mr Duke.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser paid her condolences to Ms Heyer and said: “On Sunday we know that we have people coming to our city for the sole purpose of spewing hate.”

Two counter-demonstrations have also been approved.
