University of the Highlands and Islands staff balloting for strike over compulsory redundancies
WORKERS at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) are to be balloted for strike action after bosses announced compulsory redundancies.
The Universities and Colleges Union (UCU) called the ballot after the university said that there would be 20 compulsory redundancies as part of plans to slash £4 million from its spending, including £3m from staffing budgets.
Teachers, researchers, management and administration workers are among those whose jobs under threat, along with staff in student support and academic quality assurance.
