Fascist mob pours petrol on the deck of an NGO ship in Greece

Mare Liberum says the crew is safe for now but they are being followed

FAR-RIGHT thugs on the Greek island of Lesbos poured petrol on the deck of an NGO ship while it was docked on Monday night, the crew said.

Volunteers on board the Mare Liberum, which is used to monitor the human rights of refugees, posted a video showing a group of about 10 men lurking in in the port of Skala Loutron.

At first they appear to be discussing who will pour the petrol on the boat, then one of them picks up a jerry can and walks towards the bow of the ship with a handful of men.

The footage stops when a man knocks on the window and appears to threaten the woman filming inside.

“Our crew is safe for now,” Mare Liberum spokesman Hanno Bruchmann told the Star.

“But they’re now followed by a mob of around 15 on a ship — and cars follow on land. So there remains a danger, and it is difficult to find a place to moor,” he said.

“We have called the coastguard but they said they cannot intervene.

“Going to the shore is not an option as there is a caravan of cars following the ship. The crew believes them all to be fascists.

“The ship has left the bay and is anchoring a bit further outside, in open waters. They feel safe for the moment.”
