Iran vows to hit Israeli military bases in Iraq again

IRAN warned on Thursday that it would strike what it claimed were Israeli bases in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, a week after missile hit a number of targets in Erbil.

Spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif said there would be consequences if the federal government failed to remove them.

“If Iraqi officials do not take action to remove other bases of zionists in this country while our security continues to be threatened from this region, we will respond without hesitation,” he said.

Tehran claims that 12 missiles struck a secret base operated by the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad last Sunday, which had been used as a platform for attacks on Iran.

But Kurdish media reported that civilians had been targeted in the attack, while the Barzani-owned Kurdistan 24 news organisation offices were also damaged.

Last weekend’s attack came after Israel reportedly destroyed hundreds of drones at an airbase belonging to the Revolutionary Guard in the Iranian province of Kermanshah last month.

Iran insists that the operation was launched from Israeli bases in the Kurdish regional capital Erbil.

“It is our natural right to destroy any base from which any attack is carried out against the security of Iran and this is a red line,” Gen Sharif said.
