ISRAEL’S 11-day bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip in May caused as much as $380 million (£275m) in damage, according to a joint report by the United Nations, the European Union and the World Bank.
The Gaza Rapid Damage & Needs Assessment (RDNA) published today found that “62 per cent of the population of Gaza is food insecure” as a result of the bombing campaign.
Gaza’s two-million population already had an unemployment rate of 48 per cent and poverty rates above 50 per cent before the attacks, with the UN previously predicting the area would become “unliveable” by 2020.
