Jihadists accused of planning staged chemical attack in Idlib

JIHADIST group Jabhat al-Nusra is making plans to stage a “false flag” chemical attack in the city of Idlib in northern Syria, the Russian Defence Ministry said today.

Admiral Alexander Karpov, deputy head of the Russian Coordination Centre, said that the Islamists planned to blame the Syrian Arab Army for the attack.

“There has been information that Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists are getting ready to stage a new provocation in the de-escalation zone in Idlib, which includes staging a false flag chemical attack,” he said in a press statement.

Adm Karpov claimed that the attack would have taken place in Lattakia with the participation of people acting as wounded victims accusing the Syrian government of using chemical weapons.

The Russian Defence Ministry alleged that there were a number of laboratories in Idlib that had the ability to prepare toxic materials, claiming that they were operated by specialists trained in Europe.

Both Russia and Syria have claimed that previous chemical attacks were staged.

Self-styled humanitarian group the White Helmets were accused of fabricating an attack in Douma which led to air strikes from Britain, France and the US in 2018.
