Lebanon protests ignite as clashes occur between supporters and opponents of Hezbollah
SCORES were injured during clashes between supporters and opponents of Hezbollah on Saturday, as hundreds poured onto the streets of Beirut for anti-austerity protests.
At least 48 were wounded, 11 of whom were hospitalised, as security services fired tear gas on the streets near Martyrs’ Square amid violence between the rival groups.
Protesters were demanding guarantees of medical care, education, jobs and basic rights as Lebanon faces a deepening economic crisis.
