Mexico rules abortion is not a crime in ‘historic move’
MEXICAN women’s rights groups have hailed a historic victory after the country’s Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that it is unconstitutional to penalise abortion.
The ruling, which effectively decriminalises abortion at state level, follows years of campaigning by the women’s movement in Mexico.
The court unanimously overturned a law in Coahuila, a state on the border with the US state of Texas, that had made abortion a criminal act.
