HONDURAN authorities confirmed on Wednesday that they have opened investigations into the killings of two indigenous leaders in two separate incidents over the weekend.
Environmental activist Felix Vasquez was killed by masked gunmen in front of his family on Saturday and Jose Adam Medina was shot dead on Sunday.
Mr Vasquez was seeking to stand in the March elections for the opposition Libre Party. He was a well-known land campaigner who fought against the construction of hydroelectric projects on indigenous land.
