VENEZUELANS poured onto the streets of Caracas today in support of President Nicolas Maduro amid accusations that US and other military forces were supporting an attempt to launch an armed uprising.
Thousands gathered at Miraflores Palace after the unelected President of the National Assembly Juan Guaido issued a call for Venezuelans to take to the streets in support of his latest coup attempt.

The usurper, who declared himself the interim President of Venezuela in January, issued the call flanked by men in military uniform – believed to be from the US – in what was seen as an all-or-nothing move.
Despite claims to be in the Carlota military base, sources confirmed to the Star that Mr Guado was in fact on a highway outside when he announced the “final phase” of his flagging campaign.

US and European imperialists were quick to swing behind the latest manoeuvre which appeared to fall flat with both the armed forces and the Venezuelan people coming out in support of the president.
President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani called the attempted coup “a historic day for the return of democracy and freedom to Venezuela.”
US Senator Marco Rubio warned Venezuelans: “Do not allow this moment to slip away” as he urged them to take to the streets in support of Mr Guaido.
Brazilian far-right leader Jair Bolsonaro joined the chorus of support for the overthrow of Mr Maduro saying he backed “Guaido and the freedom of Venezuelans.”
However the opposition were branded “traitors” with Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino saying the armed forces “reject this coup movement that aims to fill the country with violence.”
He condemned Mr Guaido and others as “pseudo political leaders” bent on overthrowing the democratically elected Bolivarian government of Veneuzela.
Footage shared exclusively with the Morning Star showed thousands take to the streets, gathering at Miraflores Palace chanting anti-Guaido slogans.
Speaking from Caracas, United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) activist Luz Maria Escalla Gil told the Star: “The people of Venezuela are here to support the President Nicolas Maduro.
“Guaido is without people … he is [in the middle-class district], probably with people from the US, probably with people from other countries, military from other countries.”
“But the people support President Nicolas Maduro.”
Venezuela has been subjected to a propaganda blitz coupled with punishing US and EU economic sanctions branded “illegal” and “crimes against humanity” by UN special rapporteur Alfred de Zayas last year.
