Trump to face blimp baby in Irish protest

US PRESIDENT Donald Trump will face an inflatable blimp baby when he arrives in Ireland on Wednesday as protesters rally in Dublin’s Garden of Remembrance.

Demonstration organiser Shea Flanagan said they wanted to send “a message to the world that Trump is not welcome in Ireland. His politics of fear, hate and division affect the lives of real people.

“The blimp is a fun symbol for serious work, to come together and fight for progressive politics,” he added.

Those backing the demonstration include the environmental group Extinction Rebellion and trade union Unite.

Irish Labour Senator Aodhan O’Riordan said he was working with “progressives and democrats from all parties and none” to co-ordinate a political-led protest in response to Mr Trump’s visit.

The US president had been due to visit Ireland in November last year, but the trip was cancelled.

He will fly to Ireland from a two-day state visit to Britain, where it is anticipated he will also face large protests in London.

After his brief stay in Ireland he will head to France for the D-Day memorial service.

Irish Taoseach Leo Varadker said Mr Trump was welcome in Ireland but added that protest was welcome too.
