US military base in Iraq reportedly hit by missiles

A US military base in the western Iraqi Anbar province was targeted in a missile attack on Monday, according to local sources.

Iraqi media channels reported that six 122mm BM-21 Grad rockets had struck the Ain al-Asad air base where US military forces are stationed in training and advisory roles.

The missiles were reported to have landed just a few metres from where the US troops are based, however the extent of the damage was unclear.

The International Resistance Factions claimed responsibility for the attack on “US occupation forces” and said “the target was hit precisely.”

Monday’s attack is the latest in a series of missile strikes against US military bases in Iraq.

Last week, the the Iraqi resistance group Harakat Hezbollah Nujaba said it would target Israeli positions and US military bases in the Kurdistan region.

US forces were asked to leave Iraq in January 2020 days after Iranian Quds Force Commander General Qassem Soleimani was assassinated at Baghdad International Airport in a drone strike authorised by former president Donald Trump.
