PALESTINE: Israeli occupation forces killed teenager Othman Abu Kharj today when they stormed into the West Bank town of Zababdeh, south of Jenin.

Mr Kharj was shot in the head, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Resistance group Palestinian Islamic Jihad said that he was one of its fighters.

THAILAND: Thaksin Shinawatra made a dramatic return home today to face an eight-year prison term, just as a party linked to the former prime minister won a parliamentary vote to lead the country.

Mr Thaksin appears to hope that a friendly government will be able to cut short his sentence, although he has insisted that his return to Thailand has nothing to do with the Pheu Thai party’s bid for power.

UNITED STATES: Former president Donald Trump has said that he will surrender to authorities in Georgia tomorrow to face charges of illegally scheming to overturn his 2020 election defeat in the state.

Writing on his social media network on Monday, hours after his bail was set at $200,000 (£157,000), Mr Trump said: “Can you believe it? I’ll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be arrested.”

CAMBODIA: The son of long-standing autocratic Cambodian leader Hun Sen was unanimously approved by parliament today as the new prime minister.

Hun Manet won his first national assembly seat in elections last month and will now take over from his father, who has been Asia’s longest-serving leader with nearly four decades in power, after serving as head of the army.
