SOUTH KOREA: Washington and Seoul launched huge combined military exercises yesterday.

The Ulchi Freedom Shield exercises run until September 1 and include field exercises involving aircraft, warships, tanks and potentially tens of thousands of troops.

They are likely to draw ire from North Korea, which views the exercises as an invasion rehearsal.
