UNITED STATES: Two people were killed and 28 wounded after gunfire erupted at a block party in Baltimore on Sunday.

Three of the wounded were in critical condition and more than a dozen were under 18.

The shooting took place when at least two people opened fire at a block party in the Brooklyn Homes area in the southern part of the city, said Richard Worley, Baltimore’s acting police commissioner.

No arrests have yet been made and there is no indication whether the shooting was targeted or random.

SUDAN: The Sudanese army called yesterday on young people and anyone else capable of fighting to enlist at the nearest military command for battle against the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

“The commanders of the military divisions and regions have been instructed to receive and equip the fighters, and they must go to the nearest military command or unit,” the army said yesterday morning.

NORTH OF IRELAND: Safe access zones at health service locations which offer abortion services are to be introduced in Northern Ireland by September.

The move comes following the passing of a private member’s Bill brought by former Green Party leader Clare Bailey.

The Bill was passed in March 2022 before the collapse of the Stormont Assembly.

JORDAN: Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi yesterday called for international investment into conflict-ravaged Syria’s crippled infrastructure to speed up refugee returns.

Mr Safadi made the remarks during a visit to the capital Damascus, where he met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his counterpart, Faisal Mekdad.
