GHANA: Police have been fined more than $8,800 (£7,100) for failing to release information over brutality claims of civilians and journalists in compliance with a directive by a commission.

The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative Africa said that the police had breached the law and imposed an administrative fine which the police are required to pay within 14 days.

SENEGAL: Senegal has temporarily closed its consulates abroad following attacks “causing serious damange” on diplomatic missions in Bordeaux, Milan, Paris and New York among others.

Tensions in the country and protests outside consulates are mounting following the sentencing of opposition leader Ousmane Sonko last week to two years in prison.

US: Atlanta City Council has approved $31 million (£25m) funding for a controversial police training centre, dubbed “Cop City” that has provoked nearly two years of protests.

The centre was approved in September 2021 but required an additional vote for more funding. Opponents say it will fuel police brutality and destroy a vital forest.

DENMARK: Climate activists in Copenhagen have claimed responsibility for deflating the tires of more than 100 sport utility vehicles in an action to “defend ourselves against climate change, air pollution and unsafe drivers.”

The Tyre Extinguishers group has carried out similar actions in the US and across Europe in the past, promising to “make it impossible to own an SUV in the world’s urban areas.”
