PAKISTAN: Former prime minister Imran Khan is recovering after being shot in the foot during an attempted assassination.

One of Mr Khan’s supporters was killed during the attack and 13 others were wounded.

Police are still questioning the as yet unnamed alleged attacker.

CUBA: The United Nations general assembly issued a strong rebuke to the United States by voting 185 to two in favour of a non-binding resolution condemning the illegal embargo against Cuba.

Only the US and Israel voted against the resolution while Brazil and Ukraine abstained.

Havana has demanded the lifting of the sanctions which have dealt a severe blow to the ability of the Caribbean island to deal with health challenges such as Covid-19 and the damage caused by the recent Hurricane Ian.

MYANMAR: Amnesty International is urging the suspension of aviation fuel supplies to Myanmar.

The group says this would prevent the military from using the fuel to conduct air attacks on civilian targets. Amnesty says the Myanmar regime is diverting aviation fuel to the military.

KENYA: Pilots at Kenya’s national airline, Kenyan Airways, will go on strike on Saturday.

The Kenyan Airline Pilots Association say the action, which will begin from 6am local time, is over demands that the employer resumes making contributions to their retirement funds.

Earlier in the week the airline said it could not afford to resume contributions to the pilots’ pension fund until 2023 at the earliest.
