FOOTBALL: Pep Guardiola feels Manchester City will probably have to improve on their first-leg performance against Real Madrid to progress to the Champions League final.

City are 4-3 up in the last-four clash with Real after a pulsating encounter in Manchester last week.

“Football is unpredictable,” he said today. “Sometimes you get something you don’t deserve, sometimes you don’t get something maybe you deserve... To try to be in another final, a second year in a row, is our target.”

FOOTBALL: Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall is refusing to look beyond his side’s must-win Women’s Super League game against rivals Tottenham as the title race hots up.

The Gunners have to beat their north London neighbours at home on Wednesday night if they are to have any hope of becoming champions on the final day.

Victory will see them move a point behind current leaders Chelsea, but their hopes will be over if Spurs can avoid defeat.

TENNIS: Jack Draper fell just short of a major scalp in a second-round loss to Andrey Rublev at the Madrid Open.

The 20-year-old is on the verge of becoming the next British player to break into the top 100 and he again showed his potential against sixth seed Rublev, who defeated Novak Djokovic in his home city of Belgrade to win his last tournament.

Draper overpowered his Russian opponent in the opening set and led 3-0 in the third but Rublev fought back to claim a 2-6 6-4 7-5 victory.

RUGBY U: RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney is recovering in hospital after suffering a pulmonary embolism, the governing body confirmed today.

Sweeney was admitted on Friday and the RFU said he is “expected to make a full recovery and return to work” following a period of recuperation.

Sweeney joined the RFU in 2019 after spending five years as chief executive of the British Olympic Association.
