THE LABOUR movement has “completely neglected” feminist principles, Jeremy Corbyn’s former shadow employment rights secretary said.
Speaking at the Morning Star conference in a personal capacity, former MP and Declassified co-director Laura Pidcock said the women’s movement had been “systematically and purposely” destroyed within activist groups and trade unions.
Pointing to the high rates of murders and violence against women and girls, inequalities in the workplace and at home, Ms Pidcock asked: “Where is the mass militant women’s movement?
“What has happened to all the sisters who have struggled and fought?
“It has been destroyed systematically and purposefully over many decades.
“What is absent from our movement — whatever flavour of communism or socialism — is that we have completely neglected centring feminist principles.”
The co-director of Declassified UK also added that “women bear the brunt of war,” describing the experiences of those living in Gaza who are unable to access anaesthetics for caesareans.
