MILITANT ATTACK: Pakistan’s military said on Sunday that three members of its paramilitary Rangers force were killed and four others wounded in fighting after an attack by militants the previous night on a regional headquarters in the southern port city of Karachi.

 

A militant rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the provincial headquarters of the paramilitary Pakistan Rangers in Karachi.

 

In a statement, the military said security forces had killed three attackers and captured a fourth. It identified the captured suspect as an Afghan national.

 

NEWS NEGATION: The offices of a major news organisation in Uganda were shut down on the orders of the military chief, who warned on Sunday that all media “will follow the rules.”

 

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the eldest son of President Yoweri Museveni, deployed soldiers outside the Kampala offices of the Daily Monitor newspaper early Sunday. 

 

RESIGNATION: Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic said on Saturday that he will resign his post within weeks, paving the way for early elections following youth-led protests that shook his tight grip on power.

 

President Vucic did not specify when he would resign or when an election, either for Parliament or for a new president, could be held.

 

There is speculation that he could try to switch to the more powerful position of prime minister.

 

PLANE CRASH: Chinese authorities on Saturday said a small plane that crashed into a building in Beijing the day before had killed the pilot and injured 13 others.

 

In a statement, authorities did not identify the building or the pilot, who the authorities said was the only person on the craft.
