SOUTH KOREA: The Constitutional Court is set to rule on Friday on whether to formally dismiss or reinstate impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, it was reported today.

The court has been deliberating on President Yoon’s political fate after the right-wing leader was impeached in December by the National Assembly, which is controlled by the liberal opposition, over his imposition of martial law that triggered a massive political crisis.

MALAYSIA: A fireball that erupted from a burst gas pipeline soared into the sky outside Malaysia’s largest city and injured 145 people as it burned for several hours before being put out, authorities said today.

National oil company Petronas said the fire started at one of its gas pipelines outside Kuala Lumpur. The inferno caused 20-storey flames and a huge crater in an area near a residential neighbourhood.

The fire brigade said the fire damaged 190 houses and 148 cars.

BRAZIL: Brasilia said on Monday that its intelligence agency spied on Paraguayan authorities during the presidency of Jair Bolsonaro, the predecessor of incumbent Luiz Inacio “Lula” da Silva, a move that stopped in March 2023, three months into Lula’s administration.

The statement from Brazil’s Foreign Ministry came hours after a report by news website UOL accused Lula’s administration of spying on Paraguay.

POLAND: Authorities said today they charged a Ukrainian citizen with working for Russian intelligence after he was discovered last month conducting reconnaissance of military facilities in Poland.

The National Prosecutor’s Office did not name the man, but said that he was born in Russia and that he was arrested and charged on March 20.
