Youth Demand block London traffic demanding a trade embargo on Israel

DOZENS of young people took to the streets of London today to demand that the government impose a total trade embargo on Israel.

Supporters of Youth Demand blocked traffic on Kensington Gore, near the Royal Albert Hall, and at Poultry, near the Bank of England, at 9am in two groups.

They stepped onto the road, unfurling banners reading: “Youth Demand an End to Genocide” and “Stop Arming Israel.”

Police arrived shortly after and issued a warning under Section 7 of the Public Order Act.

The two groups left and re-emerged at Elephant and Castle and Holborn to block further traffic before combining forces on Vauxhall Bridge at noon.

No arrests were made.

Connie Chilcott, a student from Falmouth taking part in the action, said: “I can’t stand by and watch as our government puts profits over the lives of Palestinians.

“The cowardice we see in the Labour government is disgusting, and we won’t stand for it anymore.

“As young people, we demand better. We refuse to be ruled by liars, war criminals and arsonists.”
