Merseyside railway station cleaners and maintenance staff are to stage their third strike over pay.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union members will walk out for 48 hours on Thursday this week.
They work for contractor Lorne Stewart, which is hired by Merseyrail.
Despite 10 months of negotiations Lorne Stewart refuses to budge over a below-inflation pay increase, despite making £15 million profit — £5,000 off every employee’s back.
RMT says two previous strikes were “rock-solid” and attracted massive public support.
The union accuses the firm of “trying to impose what amounts to a poisonous cocktail of de-facto pay cuts and institutionalised poverty pay.”
RMT acting general secretary Mick Cash said: “Despite two rock-solid rounds of strike action which have shown the strength of our members feelings, Lorne Stewart continues to refuse to address the issue of poverty pay on Merseyrail and that is why we are striking again this week.”
