AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL has joined condemnation of South Korea for jailing a man for 14 months — for writing a poem praising North Korea.

The liberal charity spoke out after a court sentenced Lee Yoon Seop on Monday. He has previously served a 10-month sentence for praising North Korea.

The sentence belies South Korea’s presentation of itself as a beacon of individual freedoms contrasting to its northern neighbour.
