Unison to push ahead with school strikes in Scotland

COUNCIL workers will be consulted by their unions on the latest pay offer from the employers, but strikes will go ahead.

After a last-minute plea for more time from the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (Cosla) and the Scottish government, an additional £84 million was put on the table in an effort to settle the six-month-long dispute and avoid strike action in the country’s schools next week.

The local government committees of all three unions in dispute — Unison, Unite and GMB — have each decided that the latest offer should be put to their memberships in consultative ballots.
