Cleaners carers, and concierge workers across London to strike for ‘pay, dignity, equality, and respect’
CLEANERS, carers, and concierge workers across Greater London have united to strike for better pay and for dignity, equality and respect in their workplaces.
Workers represented by the United Voices of the World (UVW) trade union have overwhelmingly backed industrial action at nine workplaces ranging from luxury apartment complexes and an Amazon warehouse to the London School of Economics and the Department of Education.
At the DoE, outsourced cleaners and concierges have demanded benefits parity with their Civil Service colleagues; at the LSE, they are in struggle for their statutory right to paid annual leave; while at Amazon and Mercedes they are battling for the London living wage, which currently stands at £11.95 an hour.
