LIVERPOOL MP Ian Byrne has written to France’s President Emmanuel Macron to demand an apology and an official retraction of slurs made against fans in the aftermath of last year’s Champions League final, it was reported today.
The independent report into the chaotic scenes which saw dangerous congestion build up outside the Stade de France and supporters targeted with tear gas by police fully exonerated Liverpool fans of any blame.
Uefa initially falsely blamed them for arriving late at the ground and causing the kick-off to be delayed by more than half an hour while French authorities also inaccurately claimed the problems were due to thousands of fans without tickets or forgeries trying to gain access.
