Appeal to help earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria raises over £30m in its first day

AN APPEAL to help earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria has raised over £30 million in its first day, as aid workers called on the public to donate. 

The appeal by several aid agencies including the British Red Cross, Oxfam and ActionAid, launched by the Disasters Emergency Committee went live on Thursday night. 

DEC said the British public had donated £27.9m so far. The government had pledged to match the first £5m of donations, taking the total to £32.9m.
