Appointed president Boluarte and cabinet to face investigation over role in deaths of protesters in Peru
PERU’S top prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday that it has launched an inquiry into the congress-appointed president Dina Boluarte and members of her cabinet over their roles in violent clashes that have left 40 killed and hundreds injured.
This comes after 17 civilians were killed in the country’s southern Puno region on Monday — the deadliest day of protests since former President Pedro Castillo was ousted and detained last month.
The violence continued on Tuesday with a police officer dying after his car was torched by protesters.
