Young protester laid to rest as unrest continues in Peru

A YOUNG man who was killed during a protest against the ousting of President Pedro Castillo was laid to rest over the weekend as unrest in Peru continued.

Clemer Rojas, a 23-year-old student, left his home in Quinua on Thursday and died in clashes with the army in the nearby provincial capital of Ayacucho.

On Saturday, a funeral procession of thousands of farmers, led by a mournful drumbeat, carried Mr Rojas’s casket to a church for a mass and then later to a nearby cemetery for his burial.
