ALMOST half of young people are experiencing “mental health problems” with the number increasing by a quarter since 2017, a study finds.
The new research published today by the University College London (UCL) and the Sutton Trust, using the Covid Social Mobility & Opportunities (Cosmo) study, indicates a decline in young people's mental wellbeing caused by the pandemic.
But Cosmo, the largest study of its kind into the impacts of the pandemic on young people, found the pandemic has accelerated an already present trend.
The information surveyed the mental health and wellbeing of almost 13,000 young people across England aged 16 or 17 in 2021.
