LAST season, a drone flying overhead caused a stop in play in this fixture. There were drones once more, but of an entirely different variety.

Pep Guardiola said in the week that he suspects some of his Manchester City players are operating slightly below their peak, with one eye on staying fit for next month’s World Cup.

If you still needed evidence that this is the case, the first 45 minutes at the Brentford Community Stadium was the perfect case study. It’s amazing how much energy a few orange segments can provide.
