Anti-racists in Halifax rally against government's immigration bill

ANTI-RACISM campaigners and trade unionists rallied in Halifax, West Yorkshire, on Saturday against the Illegal Immigration Bill.

The protest was organised by the Right to Remain group as part of its These Walls Must Fall (TWMF) campaign and supported by Calderdale Trade Union Council.

TWMF is a network of migrant campaigners working for radical change in society — not just on the issue of immigration, asylum and refugees.

Earlier this year the group ran workshops and campaigning in Halifax and Manchester.

About 60 people took part in Saturday’s protest.

The group said: “We believe that to achieve radical change in the immigration system we need to come together and fight for an alternative society, rather than tinkering with the policies and procedures of a racist, oppressive system.

“This will be a long struggle, and in the meantime, we need to fight to defend and extend our rights within the current system.

“We need to understand the system in order to fight against it.”
