TRANSPORT unions vowed today to defeat plans by Tory ministers and rail bosses to close Britain’s train ticket offices, saying they had “picked a fight with the wrong people.”

RMT organised a national day of action against moves to axe close to 1,000 kiosks from next month, saying the profit-driven “reforms” will cause crippling accessibility issues for elderly and disabled citizens and other passengers.

The protests, backed by fellow transport union TSSA and campaigners at We Own It and Momentum, saw demonstrations outside stations across England, including Manchester Piccadilly, Leeds, Oxford and Carlisle.
