THE government’s plans for tackling record NHS waiting lists in England were slammed by Labour today as a “Tory backlog” which failed to deal with the scale of the challenges.

In the Commons, Health Secretary Sajid Javid outlined the government’s long-delayed strategy for tackling the crisis in elective care, which was initially supposed to be published in December.

It was then expected on Monday, but was once again delayed due to alleged wrangling between the Treasury and the Health Department.
