Commemoration marks the deaths of the men, women and children killed while working at Agecroft colliery

THE deaths of more than 90 men, women and children killed working at a Lancashire colliery were commemorated on Saturday with the unveiling of a plaque bearing their names.

Agecroft colliery began production in 1840, and from then until the 1920s 93 workers were killed.

The pit was later replaced by a modern colliery, which closed in 1990.
