THOUSANDS took to the streets of Berlin today for the annual demonstration in memory of Communist Party of Germany (KPD) founders Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg.
This year’s march and commemoration marked the 103rd anniversary of their assassinations on January 15 1919, carried out on by the far-right Freikorps paramilitary at the behest of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) during the German revolution.
Hundreds of organisations took part, initially rallying at Frankfurter Tor in the heart of former East Berlin, before a spirited and militant march to the Friedrichsfelde Cemetery’s Memorial to the Socialists.
