Money paid to women’s teams in FA Cup should equal that given to men, says GMB
CHAMPIONS: Chelsea players celebrate with the trophy after the FA Cup final at Wembley

A LEADING union is calling for action to level up the money that men’s and women’s football teams receive for playing in the FA Cup after complaining of a huge difference.

The pay deficit in football is unlike any other walk of life given the money within the men’s game and the wages it can offer as a result.

The GMB said women’s teams receive £850 for competing in the first round compared to £22,629 for men’s teams in the same round.
